MID-ROUND SUMMARY
At the mid-round, Apex dominated the board, but a rising TLS was a hidden threat. General Hellfire
and his new clan Imperium (IMP) were also making waves, joined by his long time friend and
comrade Marcos Havoc. Apex had jumped out to a huge lead by stealing thousands of k-drones
at the beginning of the round. Their technique was determined to be imbalancing and hence
removed, however, they were allowed to keep their k-drones. The challenge for Apex
would be to fend off attackers and maintain control of the massive mining operation
they had gained.
END-ROUND SUMMARY
TLS ultimately rose to the occasion, and Cincomm-9 witnessed some of the largest and most
spectacular battles seen in quite some time as the veteran clan that some argue is the
best clan of all time faced off against the new upstart which announced at its inception
in the 13th Cycle that it's goal was to topple the reign of TLS.
The top ranks of Apex were hit hard and suddenly in a powerful initial strike by TLS,
doing what seemed impossible - defeating the top Apex bases that had started with such
a tremendous lead. Apex had no plans to lie down, and hit back just as hard. I am told
there were repeated attacks by powerful aces from TLS, but that Apex took back a number
of K-drones from the TLS ranks.
As the New School vs. Old School battle raged on, Hellfire and Havoc achieved victory
after victory in battles with other clans, until ultimately Hellfire emerged as a top
class threat to achieve HOF right in the face of TLS and Apex.
Perhaps biting off more than he could chew, the leader of TLS, strange, went after Hellfire's
drones. It could be that he needed more financing for the war with Apex. Or it could be that
he didn't want to lose another slot in the HOF for TLS. Whatever the reason, the
war with Apex had put too much of a strain on him to defeat IMP. Hellfire's defenses held
in yet another set of epic battles.
The strange vs. Hellfire battles helped propel Hellfire even higher, gaining score from
successful defense in addition to score from keeping a hold on his 90k+ k-drones. At this
point in the round, nearing the end, unfortunately two top players attempted to prove a
point by using a script to repeatedly exploit an event in a set of hundreds of mock battles.
By staging repeated mock battles, they inflated their scores to move up to number 1 and
number 2 on the HOF. And now, the point must be made that mock battles are a ticket out
of the HOF, not a ticket to the top. It is unfortunate indeed, however, as one of them put
it, he would rather not achieve HOF in an such a manner and would prefer to earn it
properly in rounds to come.
Thus, the round concludes with Apex still coming out as the winner and adding a lot
more stars to its HOF count. FOM it appears has gone the way of all the Earth, now that
Havoc and Hellfire have started their own clan the remaining members dispersed.
So we bid farewell to one of the great hopefuls of the second generation of clans. Of that
group (FATE, FOM, ADVOC, sorta C9C), only C9C remains potent. Beyond C9C, from the
first generation, METRO, TLS and CHAOS remain, and each is still quite capable when motivated,
as TLS has shown. (edit: Revived and resurging, DOM is also rightly classed with the first
generation clans)
NEXT ROUND PREDICTIONS
Well, these are not really predictions as I am writing this so late, but at the time I
saw a huge increase in members gathering into IMP following Hellfire's success. At
one point, I believe he had 16-17 members, making IMP the 3rd largest clan in Cincomm-9
at the time. I would have predicted that IMP would give Apex a run for its money, and
given the new activity in TLS, that TLS might pull another surprise move. I would have
been wrong on both counts. The next round held other surprises, a rise of one of the
first generation clans, a fall of an emperor, and standard setting unfolding.
