END-ROUND SUMMARY
ROUND 19: APRIL 4 - May 16
This record marks the first that we shall get an idea of the pattern of success on Cincomm-9
through tracking the DM choice of the leading section leaders. The stats speak for
themselves, but that choice alone is not the key to the door of the Hall of Fame.
The beginning of the round
started at a steady pace leading up to approaching wars.
There were scattered skirmishes, but a single event set off
the onslaught of full-blown war. Elder Fortress8, former member of FATE and one of the few
to survive the FATE scandal of the 18th Cycle, had joined his former enemy, Apex at the start
of the round. Take note, Fortress proved his skills by being all that stood between Apex and
a full round sweep. Yet, after about 400 weeks, he
left the safe haven of super power Apex
to join Elder Loneson, Lt. Col. Armageddon, and another former Apex, Maj. Gen. Balance, over at Mercenary Central
(Merc) HQ.
Merc has been emerging as a solid clan over the past few rounds with
unclear allegiance regarding the two current powers, Apex and C9C. Not since the 16th Cycle has
a clan stood even with Apex at round's end, and that was a duel of the
Chaos mining kings against the Apex warriors. No warring clan has ever held its ground
against Apex since TLS defeated them in the 13th Cycle, and that was Apex's inaugural round.
Merc is, beyond doubt, a warring clan, not a mining clan, so if they faced off with Apex,
what would be the result?
There seemed to be some love lost when Fortress left Apex, as Apex leader Elder Smidsy
quietly noted, "He came, he saw what we do, and he left. Then the attacks began."
Elder Fortress responded: "I never intended to be an Apex, I was only curious as to
the secret behind their success. I found there is no secret, only high activity
and good teamwork."
Sometimes the obvious can be obscure... who knew? The secret of success is hard work?
Yes, this simple fact is often forgotten. But there was more to Fortress' departure than that.
