END-ROUND SUMMARY
ROUND 20: JUNE 13 - JULY 31
This was a round of epic action. For the first time in a long time, I am compelled to
write the summary directly after the close of the round. The numbers above speak volumes to
those familiar with the history of Cincomm-9. Volumes. If you don't know, before
you read on you ought to know about the intense rivaly between C9C and Apex, about
the fact that Smidsy, Nastydog, and Ozz all joined around the same time and considered
forming a single clan but did not, about the fact that a full 10-member sweep of the
board has NEVER happened! Everyone wants to know the result. I can tell you
this, it turned on minutes of action. Minutes. Read on to find out
what happened.
Where to begin? The round started with some shifting of allegiances. Notably, Elders woodall and justinsane,
prior formidable enemies of Apex, both joined the champion clan. This was no small
matter. Either of these have well honed military minds that have seen countless battles and can tell you in an instant from looking at an approaching
army the best response with the resources available. The "Elder" in front of
Justin's name holds the weight of over 1000 days of war, his instincts sharpened
fighting against the last super power, the great Terris Lein Strategists, and having achieved
a number 1 finish himself 10 rounds ago. These two joining Apex would be significant,
especially since Apex lost two top notch members in Cvelle and Wraith.
Other noteworthy moves include Gen. balance leaving Merc and returning to Apex,
another crucial part in this story, as well as
Elder Megatron joing Merc.
Apex also picked up two significant new members, Maj. Shadows and Cpt. Barsetter, both
of whom did excellent in their debut round.
And so the stage was set.
At first glance it seemed that Justin had joined apex primarily to get a major accolade
that had somehow managed to elude him, the illustrious Green Star. But soon it became clear that bigger
plans were in the works.
By week 630, the halfway point in the round, the top 7 were
Apex, the next 3 were 2 Merc and 1 Chaos, with Maj. Shadows being the only other Apex in the remaining top 20,
and she was rising fast. After some back and forth with Merc, she would eventually overcome and
break through into the top 10, giving Apex 8 very strong
HOF spots.
It wouldn't be until week 910 - just 257 weeks remaining in the round - that Cpt. (then Lt.)
Barsetter suddenly appeared at number 20. Just three weeks later, Gen. Balance joined him
and the race was on! At the time the averge score being gained per week outside of Apex
was 6,000 - but Balance and Barsetter were flying up at rates of 17K and 12K. The top contenders for
spots 9-10 were Maj. Gen. Defiant of Chaos, Elder Megatron and Col. Armageddon both
of Merc, and last but surely not least, Elder Ozz, founder of C9C and sworn rival
of Apex.
