PXG vs. Merc

While Merc attacked Apex and C9C, PXG planned a decisive feint-and-counter strike. Jason explained: "The only member of MERC giving us problems is Armageddon, with his low rep, he is able to make major score off small attacks like g-strikes. Loneson attempted to remove kds from our lower rep members but I just took them back right away...I have tanks now, waiting for Megatron's shield to drop...I ordered the clans BC's spent on Endtimes and Devourers on the BC market, which hopefully indicated to MERC that we were going for a space based offence as our 'end game' but this is a smokescreen for tank rushes...it seems to be working as they don't have missiles yet."

PXG successfully executed their attacks on Merc, but at a cost of catching the attention of the beast, as Jason realized: "Well...Merc didn't like Megatron's base being taken out...they massed me...first Armageddon with Triggers to clear my Rogues...my motherships got kills (very few tho) and put a stop to that...then Fortress saw I couldn't hit asu's and sent Metal Ants in killing my 1K Vipers that were supposed to ward off air strike (but I forgot to put them into my cavern hanger) then Armageddon sent an air force with Phantoms, Killerbees, Flying Fortresses, Hawks and Banshee...Fortress followed up with more of the same...Devastators killed my base, but only barely managed to chew through my walls and the majority of shafts survived the assault...Megatron followed up with Tarantula extraction because by now, my Rage, Banshee, and CDS-10's were done like dinner..."

At this time, the words of his former friend and comrade came back to haunt him, as he reflected: "I may have jumped the gun once again, as Ozz would say…"

PXG would go back and forth with Merc, but the tide was slowing moving in Merc's favor. Jason lamented: "...*sigh*...it would seem the winds of fate are fickle and totally unfair...the longer I have waited to implement my tank rush strat, the more prepared the enemy becomes... a moment of opportunity came along...Apex hit Merc...we capitalized by grabbing a bunch of kds from Fortress...he tried to take mine, but we countered...our shafts survived the night...we had some timely shields...however...I see enemy defenses becoming more focused on stopping rushes...it occurs to me I will need many hangers...i think about 15...i need 2K Krushers, 2K Rumblers, 1K Demolishers and about 500 Lunar Cannons...they have missiles...Dreads are my main concern...it costs res I don't have to spam them away...and without the Lunars yet...if I employ the strat too soon...the defenses will increase...I have also left myself another option...Bombers and Devastators...I have been making payments on Meteors but with the space advantage taken away by Wood's fleet...I don't think I should pursue this any further."

That mention of "Wood's fleet" is referring to Apex member Woodall, who had one of the largest fleets in the world at that time, and he was agressive. As BrianOHWD from C9C reported: "Woodall made some very successful attacks on me early in the round, and those were a big set back."

Jason would also see that getting a clan to be a well oiled machine doesn't happen overnight: "...it would seem there is still many growing pains in PXG...some common attacking errors...unchecked caverns...old intel...it's a real fight just trying to hang in here around the top 10 let alone crack it...rep control has also been an issue...and we find ourselves attacking down the rep scale just to hit enemy's funding and finding anything to destroy...instead of being able to make a dent in the higher reps, the bigger targets..."

Those bigger targets were preparing for and taking part in some serious large scale wars. As great an effort as PXG was putting forth, there was a realm of battle that just weren't yet prepared to enter in their first round of existence: the realm of the champions, who fought with green and red stars behind their names.
