END ROUND SUMMARY

Where to begin with this summary... for the first time I asked all clan leaders to submit clan summaries of their activities this round. Those that submitted sent a lot! I had no idea so much was happening behind the scenes. It has been too much to sum up, I just haven't had the time to sort it all out (everyone has their own spin of what happened concerning certain wars and events). But the HOF stars have all been awarded and I decided I might as well at least put up the list so all can see who made it, and I'll sort out the end round summary later.

----

Ok, last round summary can wait, I've got to write about Round 8 before it ends. It has been monumental, bearing the marks of an evolutionary power shift with lots of action and some tight strat moves. Makes me almost want to play the game but I think I'd get crushed... it says something when the players are making moves the game creator didn't think of, man.

I've been watching the battles, watching the leaderboard it has been fascinating to say the least. Regarding strats and tactics, I won't go into great detail out of respect of the players who came up with those ideas, but I will provide a general run down of what happened.

The round began with general scrapping and fighting, every clan for themselves it seemed and the leaderboard was evenly spread. Approaching mid-round, METRO, the oldest clan, got aggressive and surged ahead with a high clan attack ratio. They showed some major victories and ripped through a few clans, stealing hundreds of k-drones as one METRO after the other began to climb until at the half-way point it looked like METRO was going to dominate and run off with no way to stop them. They reached a point where 7 out of their 8 members were in the top 10, and the top 6 were all METRO, as the top rep player Barryrf gleefully pointed out in the forum. And that's when it got good.

HC, the clan with the most HOF stars, seemed to be floundering the whole round. All of them had low reps, not even in the top 30 or so. I was fooled into thinking it was over, already wondering how to change the game to make it more balanced for the next round. But the world of Cincomm-9 balanced itself. I remember the day I logged on, ho-hum, check and make sure things are flowing right - and BOOM. There was one less METRO in the top. It was a big surprise, mainly because this is a game where in the past one can get to the top and generally, if he or she has the higher income, the higher battle experience, etc, they can get unbeatable. That is actually a problem we've been trying to be rid of and when I saw one of the Untouchables knocked out, and I mean CLEANED out, I wondered.

A couple days later BOOM. Another METRO was knocked out of the top 10. Cleaned of all goods. Suddenly, out of nowhere an HC appears in the top 15. I mean a huge jump in rep, no blue crystals involved or anything, and starts wreaking havoc. I'm thinking, "What in the world..." Now I started paying closer attention. TIOC9 and KINGS did some major attacks and BOOM, a third METRO is knocked out just like that! Now the full rush begins and it was clear... METRO had zero allies among the top clans and those clans were like a sniper rifle moving from METRO to METRO. Nothing like this has ever happened in the game before, there has never been such a successful joint effort to de-throne a leading clan. And now as we're coming down to the last days, METRO is still holding on to only the top 2 spots, all other METROs have been knocked out. The METRO attack rate fell tremendously as the clan has been on a serious defensive front.

I'm watching to see how the last few days will play out. Armies are everywhere, some hiding, some fighting. Somehow, strange, the HC leader, has pulled himself up into the top 10 for the first time this round just as we're reaching the end. This will be one of the greatest comebacks I've seen if he manages to pull an HOF star out of this round, which he has said will be his last round. At the moment, it's also looking like for the first time, Wraith might not get an HOF star this round, ending his record streak of 7 stars in a row. But I'm not ruling anything out until the end, it's going down to the wire.

The significance of all this is clear: getting to the top early and camping out is no longer a fool-proof plan. In my mind there were only 2 or 3 major clans that were capable of making something happen. There were, in fact, at least 5 major clans. Inter-clan diplomacy is going to play a bigger role in the future. There are smaller clans now that could play a much bigger role in the future as we've seen the game is moving to a different level. In the early rounds, the top areas dominated. Then the clans came into existance and the top clans dominated. Now, the power is shifting again. Soon the top clans won't dominate, but rather the best diplomats. Makes me wonder if new research/construction branches should be added for those that want to remain clanless... or will this problem too, work itself out...
